With only a couple days left in 2011, Shelby Christie, a budding star and entrepreneur in Charlotte, NC, made sure that she ended the year off with a bang hosting her very first Bombshells in the Business event. Christie, a student at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and intern for W Magazine, started the event as a way to give back to her community and provide a platform for other young women who are business-minded to receive helpful advice and guidance towards their chosen careers.
“I used to feel like I was the only one who didn’t know what exactly I wanted to do.” Christie says as she reflects on why she started Bombshells in the Business. “I have been afforded many opportunities and I feel that it is my duty to give back to other young woman who might not have individuals mentoring or guiding them towards success.”
Hosted at the local Amelie’s Bakery, a very fashionable Christie presented to the packed house of listeners a panel of five local influential women who each have experienced the triumphs and disappointments within their own professional careers. Each speaker was able to offer their own expertise, advice, and personal standpoints on how they came to success in their fields and how other young women, and men, can do the same.
